Congress to consider REINS Act

This NMA update gives important information on the “Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act” (H.R. 10). and contacts for elected officials. Congress could consider the REINS Act as early as this week.

Introduced by Rep. Geoff Davis (R-Ky.), the REINS Act would require Congress to take an up-or-down vote on all new major regulation or rules produced by an executive branch agency (like the EPA) that have an annual economic impact of $100 million or more. With more than 100 major rules finalized by the Obama Administration in the past year, this legislation is vital to increasing congressional accountability and transparency in the federal government’s regulatory process.

Everyone reading this has a stake in this vote because the EPA’s direct action against the coal industry has a direct impact on the availability of affordable and secure electricity.
